A Cajun Girl

Hailey Hebert…born in a sugarcane farming town nestled along the Louisiana coastline. Cajuns are known for their memorable cuisine and devotion to having a good time. “Laissez les bon temps rouler” - Let the Good Times Roll!

Lucky for me, I called this place home for most of my life. From being raised in the cane fields to living on a houseboat in Henderson Swamp, you could say my childhood was textbook Louisiana living. I owe my spirited zest for life to this unique corner of the world and in many ways, it was preparing me for the future.

From the swamp to the Mountains

In true “small-town girl” fashion, I had big dreams of getting out of Louisiana. Thankfully, I developed a love for travel at a young age as a result of having a highly explorative father. Being nomadic for most of my 20’s, I found myself craving a place to call home, and returning to Louisiana was not the move. My soul was being pulled in a different direction. That direction was up….up north and up in elevation. Discovering the Appalachian mountains was like a kiss from the universe. Out of every region, every country, every continent I have traversed, THIS was the spot. I landed in Western North Carolina back in 2018 and fell in love quickly. The rainforest, waterfalls, and quarts-filled mountains are certainly what caught my attention but it became home for a much deeper reason, the People and their Culture.
